Chinese Girl Has Basketball For Prosthetic Legs!

No, it isn't Photoshop digital deception. Little Qian Hongyan was only three years old when an accident caused her to lose both of her legs. Her parents live in rural Zhuangxia, China and could not afford proper prosthetics so they fashioned a prosthetic from a basketball. Using that and two wooden props Qian was able to get around.

Don't worry though. While tragic that her legs were lost the Qian's story has a happy ending. She is now ten years old and has her mind set that she will participate as a swimmer in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England!


Qian trains hard by swimming at least 2,000 meters daily. "Qian Hongyan studies hard. She never grouches in training although she was confronted with many difficulties at the beginning," her coach reports!
Now Qian has been fitted with a proper pair of prosthetic legs though, believe it or not, she occasionally likes to use the basketball because it is easier to get in and out of the pool with.Best of luck in the Paralympics Qian!Enjoy this short video montage of photographs of Qian.
