Isla de Muñecas! Creepy Island Of The Dolls! (26 Images and Video!)
Many people claim the island to be one of the creepiest destinations you can go to, the dolls all seeming to stare at you as you explore.

Don Julián Santana, the story goes, chose to live as a hermit on the island for the last 50 years of his life, turning his back on society and his married life.
The short video below gives a bit more insight into the story, in addition to being a bit creepy and evocative itself.

Santana claimed a little girl had drowned in the canals and he collected the dolls as a tribute to her spirit. Others say the dolls repel evil spirits.

Over the years the eccentric hermit fished hundreds of dolls from the canals, local trash, and traded home grown vegetables for old, beat up dolls.

Ironically the doll collector himself was found drowned in 2001 in the very same canal reputed to be the place where the girl died.

These days the site is becoming a bit of a tourist attraction. Though hard to get to in it's location 17 miles south of Mexico City, and off the tourist path, about 20 people a day find their way here.

Enjoy this creepy gallery of dolls, and if you ever make it there, send us some more pictures!

And tall Don Julián Santana we said hello.
