First off, there are First Amendment issues in trying to enforce the regulations against monetary mutilation when it's being done as an artistic political statement, which these works clearly are.

Second, the over-the-top worry about "weakening the money supply" is absurd on its face -- I'm sure far more money than this gets irretrievably destroyed in washing machines every week -- but hey! Look at it this way: this is an eensy teensy offset of all the counterfeit bills artificially inflating our money supply.

Seeing that the federal reserve,Is not Federal(apart of the government)or a reserve (a place where money is stored).Now if the government printed our own money,then maybe.But actually as someone mentioned,money has no value except what we place on it,and by how much is in circulation.It's not even worth the paper it is printed on.Don't believe it ? Absolutely beautiful. And (approximately) thirty bucks (or however much) isn't going to hurt the economy. Odds are he wouldn't've spent it anyway. Thirty bucks won't save anyone's job (don't get me wrong, I'm all for working with disabled people, I do it on a volunteer basis, but still. Thirty bucks.) It's no crime to destroy money; in fact, if you brought those into a bank, I bet they'd give you replacements (but why?)

Also, it's not your money, so why do you mind? Chances are, the artist paid for those stacks themeselves.
